Rain is falling and floodwaters are rising again in Southern Alberta.
A year less a day since catastrophic floods hit the nearby town of High River, population 13,000, local states of emergency were declared yesterday on the Blood Reserve, around the towns of Claresholm and Cardston, and in the areas of the cities of Lethbridge and (Read more…)

How big a role did the guns ’n’ ammo crowd play in the defeat Calgary West MP Rob Anders by former Alberta PC cabinet minister Ron Liepert for the Conservative Party nomination in the new Calgary Signal Hill riding?
It’s impossible to say with any certainty, of course, because there were a bazillion and one perfectly good reasons for the Conservative Party members who got (Read more…)

We have learned, courtesy the news media, that membership in the National Rifle Association has surged past five million souls since the Sandy Hook Massacre of little children in Connecticut last December.

The US has an estimated 310 million guns (2009 figure) in circulation and second amendment rights that codify the right to bear arms. Gun ownership is part of the American way… even though back in 1791 the law makers who ratified the Bill of Rights didn’t have the Bushmaster AR-15 in mind, much less the number of innocent lives it is capable of extinguishing in short order.
Homicidal shooters-on-a-mission who kill for revenge, for the notoriety or because they’re acting out some undiagnosed condition… don’t exist in a vacuum. They live in a nation in which violence has been “normalized”

There are 300 million guns in the US, by some estimates. As one person said online, if a proliferation of guns means society is safer, as those in the NRA and other pro-gun organizations claim, then the US should be one of the safest places in the world. There are more guns in the US then there are people. Logic dictates when you have that many weapons, they are going to fall into the hands of a crazy person. For example, what was the mother of the reported killer doing with a registered assault rifle, + a Glock pistol and
