Cowichan Conversations: Corporate Canada Is Safe With Justin Trudeau

Richard Hughes-Political Blogger

The state our Canada’s democracy is grim at all levels. Our PM Steve Harper is an overbearing, top down dictator.

He has managed to BS too many Canadians that he is a wonderful manager of the economy. He is not.

Under Harper our sovereignty is being sold down the river to the Chinese and whoever else can prop up his now failing government. The trade deals passed and others still on the table are of benefit to corporate investors and the detriment of the rest of us.

Cowichan Conversations: The Liberals and the NDP Will Assure Another Harper Victory, Unless…

Richard Hughes Political Blogger

Chatter in political circles of the centre and centre left variety have been underway for years. It seems that today’s NDP are more comfortable propelling and then propping up Harper than actually cutting a deal with the Liberals. Power players in the NDP inner circles have moved the party to the middle with a goal of eclipsing the Liberals, thus becoming the party of the middle.

Well they have moved to the mushy middle and yet that has not happened, has it. Truth is that the NDP are as close as they will ever get under the present electoral structures.

Prepare yourselves for haughty

Cowichan Conversations: Rafe Mair Is Back And I Am Stealing His Posts Again!

Rafe Mair – Political Blogger

Holidays are over and Rafe is back telling it like it is. His response to the heavy handed Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s handling of the ‘Idle No More’ protests are predictable and welcomed.

You can just imagine how much Harper enjoys his posts and the Common Sense Canadian Blog that he runs with Damien Gillis.

So I have happily grabbed his latest and I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as I have. Here is Rafe and his views on the uprising of the Idle No More forces.

Cowichan Conversations: Harper’s Government – The Worst We Have Ever Had

Richard ‘Hub’ Hughes-Political Blogger

Years ago I read a saying that pretty well sums up the current situation with Steve Harper and his snarly band of rabid right wingers.

“There is a difference between the right to do something and the right thing to do.”

It is true that Harper’s ‘might is right ’ approach may at least temporarily carry the day, pass motions in the parliament, and rewrite laws, policies and regulations neglecting the tried and true practice of disclosure, debate and discussion.

Framing this undemocratic behaviour as efficient and streamlining is a dangerous lie that will come back

Cowichan Conversations: ‘Idle No More’ Receives Support from Columbia- Aboriginal Pushback Grows

Richard ‘Hub’ Hughes- Political Blogger

Support for Attawapiskat Chief Teresa Spence is it sees going international as the word of her hunger strike for aboriginal justice continues. Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper refuses to meet with the Chief Spence. Harper’s Omnibus Bill contained measures that further damaged a marginalized people and they are demanding process and meetings with the PM.

It is very much the same struggle whether it is in Columbia, New Zealand, Austraila or Canada. The pushback is growing.

Cowichan Conversations: Chairman Harper’s Economic Desperation Deal With China

Richard Hughes- Political Blogger

Selling bitumen fast, while it’s still hot, is the prime minister’s myopic motivation, says Andrew Nikoforuk in his report featured in the Tyee.

We have been sold down the river by a combination of neo con corporate greed and the unrelenting far right evangelical so called Christianity.

How these greedy bastards can claim to embrace Jesus and Christianity or any other religion is beyond me. They disdain everything that approaches religious behaviour or values.

“I don’t think Canadians want us to sell out important Canadian values — our belief in democracy, freedom, human rights. They don’t want

Cowichan Conversations: Will Harper’s Own Conservatives Turn Against Him Over The China Deal?

Richard Hughes- Political Blogger

We have been hearing about Premier Steve Harper’s deal making with the Chinese and Malaysian’s investing in the Tar Sands for some time. Now that Harper has made it official the shit may well hit the fan.

Canadians of every stripe recognize the sell out and this could well spell Harper’s undoing. His contempt for our parliamentary democracy, his absence of a ‘Canada First’ approach, his ignorance and outright arrogance may finally be coming home to roost. How long will it be until the knives come out in his heretofore unquestioning gaggle of whipped Tory MP’s? Has it already

Cowichan Conversations: Harper’s China Investment Treaty Is An Unconscionable Sellout Of Our Soverignty!

Richard ‘Hub’ Hughes – Political Blogger

I wish that headline was an extreme eggageration and that PM Harper’s Sellout of Canada wasn’t really that big a deal, but I would be wrong. I do not know why he is so hell bent determined to ruin our country but he is changing Canada before our very eyes.

The deal with China over our resources is great for China but very bad news for Canada.

How do we stop it when he refuses to abide by traditionl parliamentary processes, when he refuses to bring this matter before parliament?

Cowichan Conversations: Check the Latest From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency!

Richard ‘Hub’ Hughes-Political Blogger

Here is the latest from CFIA about the addidtions to the foods that are unfit for consumption.

Many of these are items “Voluntarily recalled” by XL Foods. Could this mean that they are foods that the reduced CFIA staff inspectors have not got around to yet? There is a huge credibility crisis going on with our food in Canada and it is the Harper Government’s fault responsibility.

How long is this going to go on and when if ever will the Steve Harper Conservative’s get it that cutting CFIA staff and brutally slashing their budgets are to
