The Disaffected Lib: At Least Someone is Pushing Back

The FBI claims that, beginning last December,  Anonymous has waged a campaign hacking U.S. government computers.

The hackers exploited a flaw in Adobe Systems Inc’s software to launch a rash of electronic break-ins that began last December, the FBI said in a memo seen by Reuters, then left “back doors” to return to many of the machines as recently as last month.

As I have read about this I have wondered what to make of it.   Of course hacking into government computers and lifting data is against probably several laws.  That makes it a crime.  (Read more…)

Cowichan Conversations: What If Everyone Wore Harper Masks?

Politics, Re-Spun: Why Do They Want Us To Shut Up?

If we were harmless, the riot cops would stay home.

It’s Friday. It’s been a long week. Like most weeks. We are taught to fit in and obey.

We are told that individuality and the search for social justice will get us in trouble, either by government surveillance or social ostracism.

We speak out, still. We put on our Guy Fawkes masks, or not. We endure trolls online.

But this one’s for you.

If the Occupy Movement were no threat, there wouldn’t have been a massive, coordinated, international effort among the elites, their media and their governments to squash it (Read more…)

BigCityLib Strikes Back: Should Anonymous Identify Rehtaeh Parsons’ Tormentors?

WK ignited a crap storm yesterday when he tasked the hackivist group Anonymous with finding the identity of  four male teens who allegedly assaulted Miss. Parsons. Anon now claims to have done just that.  Furthermore, they have threatened to name names should it become apparent that the Nova Scotia authorities intend to do nothing further in what appears on the face of it to have been a case of gang-rape and subsequent cyber-bullying of the rape victim.

Some writers, like Chris Selley, have suggested that Kinsella and others are engaged in dangerous vigilantism.  I don’t think so.

Toews wankfest takes place today in Parliament

My brain hurts.

Rarely has something been so indicative of the impotence and irrelevance of the modern Tory than Vic Toews’ retribution against those who mock him. In a primo example of Conservative wastefulness and vengeful preoccupation with payback, Parliament is set today to go after that ‘amorphous’ organization known as Anonymous.

Why is this valuable time and political real estate

The Disaffected Lib: I Don’t Believe Anonymous Did Anything Wrong

Did Anonymous threaten Vic Toews as is being suggested?   Did Anonymous warn Toews that, if he didn’t kill C-30, it would out him over his involvement with a Manitoba judge?  In other words, did they try to extort Toews?   Was he being blackmailed?

I don’t think so.   This question ran through my mind when I first heard the Anonymous clip posted on YouTube a week before the substantive clip came out.   I couldn’t identify any element of blackmail to it.  There was no, “if you don’t do this, we’ll do that,” element to it.

So, what’s in Anonymous’ bombshell Toews video?

Early this morning, Anonymous dropped its Toews bombshell via youtube. I tried to follow the narrative but my hearing (Menieres/tinnitus) was not up to Anonymous’ echoed audio. I gave up after a couple of minutes of trying to decipher the contents. It didn’t sound like much so I moved on, thinking that the data dump was coming in the form of printed materials.

The Disaffected Lib had no such

The Disaffected Lib: It’s On. Anonymous Under Attack.

The battle to disrupt the Anonymous collective is underway.  The latest campaign has been directed at Spanish-speaking activists.

Spanish cops arrested several suspects earlier this week and further arrests followed in South America.

The group now says it wasn’t police technical sleuthing that got them but infiltration of one website used by them.

Interpol, which announced the arrests Tuesday, did not say how it encountered the 25 suspects, who it says were involved in cyberattacks originating from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain that targeted sites including Colombia’s defense ministry and presidency and Chile’s Endesa electricity company and national library.
