Tony Clement: anything for a friend

While the media pretty much ignores the scandals around Peter MacKay’s elite transportation perks, Tony Clement is not so lucky. He’s being ridden hard and put up wet, if not by the media at least by NDP’s Charlie Angus.

Yesterday, New Democrat Ethics Critic Charlie Angus released documents showing that the old days of pulling strings for your friends is alive and well in the office of Minister Tony Clement.

On August 10, 2008, Mr. Clement sent an email from his Ministerial Health Canada account to a friend discussing the upcoming G8 summit in Huntsville. In it, he asked his friend if he would like a job with the town of Huntsville—in the minister’s riding.

When the friend agreed, Mr. Clement contacted the Mayor of Huntsville, who promised to email the minister’s friend.Mr. Clement’s response? “Good stuff!”

Isn’t that “good stuff” the same kind of backroom dealing that the Conservatives promised to clean up?
